Precipitation Aluminium Hydroxide for Flame Retardant

ATH is the world's most commonly used flame retardant :
it has a roughly 38 percent share of the entire flame retardant market, and its annual market volume totals approximately 600,000 tons.  This white, crystalline solid is manufactured from bauxite.ATH hinders fire because it is endothermically decomposed into aluminum oxide and water. The process consumes energy, weakens flammable gases and builds an oxide layer to protect against the entry of energy and oxygen. Accordingly, ATH is a very effective flame retardant for use in many applications; especially fiberglass reinforced plastics, synthetic marble, electrical cables and wires, as well as electrical insulators.  ATH is easily dispersible in water, as a result of its polar nature, facilitating use in water-based paints.
ATH is utilized as a flame retardant in plastics, paints, adhesives, sealing agents, and rubbers.  It is additionally used as a Pigment in paper, paper coatings, industrial coatings, and water-based paints.  ATH is also applied as polishing agent in toothpaste, as raw material for catalysts, and in the production of various aluminum compounds. Furthermore, ATH can also be processed into aluminum oxide through calcination. Special varieties of aluminum oxide are used as raw materials in ceramics, fire-resistant materials, and polishing materials.

Of the Common fillers used in Plastics, Rubber, FRP, SMC, DMC moulding and other polymers only Alumina Trihydrate has flame retarding and smoke suppressing properties as well as being an economical resin extender. Alumina Chemical & Castables is the leading developer & Processor of ATH. ATH is used in polyester resins. However with increased attention being given to smoke & toxic fume emissions, ATH has found large volume application in vinyl as a low smoke, non toxic replacement for antimony and in polyurethane, latex, neoprene foam system, Rubber, wire & Cable insulation, vinyl walls & flooring coverings and epoxies. Alumina Trihydrate acts as a flame retardant and smoke suppressor because of its thermodynamic properties. Its endothermic dehydration cools the plastic & Rubber parts and dilute with water vapour those combustible gases that do escape. The latter is probably the main phenomenon associated with smoke suppression other excellent performance include electrical and track resistance.
Alumina Trihydrate widely use in Paper Industries as a whitening agent in place of titanium dioxide.
ATH is also use in Paints Industries. ATH can replace upto 25% of the Titanium dioxide pigment & therefore is an economical extender reducing production cost.
